I recently had a very similar problem. Then my bike quit working alltogether. I brought it to my local shop and it appears that the cam chain came apart in the motor (NOT good, so I hope it's not the same problem - just in case, I'd have it looked at immediately). It's costing me a lot to have fixed. Other things causing such a loss could be improper timing, loss of compression, a fouled plug, or failing clutch. I hope the problem turns out to be minor.
